Robert L. “Bob” Weppler

87, of Oblong, Illinois.

VISITATION: 5:00 ~ 7:00 p.m. Monday July 7, 2014 at Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, Illinois.

FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday July 8, 2014 at Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, Illinois with Pastor Mike Seidenstricker from Good Shepard Lutheran Church, Newton, IL officiating.  Burial will be in the Oblong Cemetery, Oblong, IL with Military Rites being conducted by Oblong American Legion Post #219.

Robert L. “Bob” Weppler, 87, of Oblong, IL died at 2:36 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Crawford Memorial Hospital, Robinson, IL.

Bob was born February 12, 1927 at Buckley, Illinois the son of Balser Weppler and Netta (Brackmann) Weppler.  He married Nel Shaffner of Martinsville, IL on December 22, 1954 and she preceded him in death on January 30, 1996.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law Denise and Jerry Olmstead; a son and daughter-in-law Keith and Julie (Minnick) Weppler; three grandchildren Brittany Weppler, Ryne Weppler and Grant Olmstead; a sister Mildred Erdman and special friend Betty Alumbaugh.

Bob was preceded in death by his father and mother, his wife, and a brother Alfred Weppler.

He attended Buckley High School; University of Illinois and Eastern Illinois University where he obtained a Master’s of Science Degree in Industrial Arts.  Bob was a high school teacher for 38 years with 33 years at Oblong High School.

He was a member of the Oblong American Legion Post #219, Oblong, IL for over 60 years; a member of the Crawford County V.F.W. Post #4549, Robinson, IL; Robinson Elks Lodge #1188 and the Robinson Moose Lodge #1369.

Bob was a member of the Good Shepard Lutheran Church in Newton, IL and affiliated with the Central United Methodist Church in Oblong, IL.

Bob was in the United States Army during WWII serving in Camp Robinson, Arkansas and overseas in Iceland.
